How I feel sometimes….. long & slow journey with a big bundle to deliver.
But as the Chinese proverb quoted:-
“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.”
And so.. though its slow & much to cover.. its better than not making that tiny step at all.
Maybe, just maybe my heart could grow to be as big as pa’s…
And maybe, just maybe I could recognised that giving second chances are not just about being ‘nice’ but a wise decision.

When I saw the live interview of the looting of the Bukit Antarabangsa landslide homes where M’sia ‘great’ police head (of some kind i think) saying that “so far we have only received ‘allegations’ but no reported cases”. I can only go “huh” ? So.. are we saying that policemen only react to cases AFTER it happen ? What happen to all the needs for new patrol cars or new police recruits on prevention? Local chinese ‘wan bao’ (night newspaper) shared that the police/authorities of some kind disallow the reporters to go into the looted homes to take pictures & yet the common M’sians (like me) thought we have to supply real ‘evidence’ for reports .. no? Geez…
So anyway.. in today’s news (read here) – interestingly in the article it quoted that Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said only six reports have been made so far. Oh.. WOW.. only SIX (6) ! (just FYI.. fourteen (14) bungalows were destroyed.., so..6 out of 14… soooo little ya)
So Khalid Abu Bakar – you need like 14 (ie 100% homes looted) reports to make it a big deal? Why don’t these looters go check out this abu bakar home.. they could probably get more free drinks plus some valuables & ZERO (0) report will be reported since it can be classified as allegations.
Yes in Malaysia we have a super responsible cop – ‘Police Chief’ – who see crimes by the numbers reported & not the safety of the innocent, law abiding & tax paying citizens. Yes – the police CONDONE the acts of crime as long as it does not ‘hit’ above their targets.
So…. looters, thieves, kidnappers, addicts, bag snatchers, murderers, robbers & other criminals wannabes.. word of advice from this musing-maniac.. “as long as you keep your ‘numbers’ of reported low in a said period”, you just might get ‘waive’ from arrests or even noticed from our ‘super’ police chief to warrant as an important crime to be looked in by his team of ‘good citizens catching‘ policemen.
Yes.. just another day in ‘paradise‘ in Malaysia.
Of late – scarcity is always on my mind. I guess I must have a scarcity mentality when I go about my daily work & even my daily life.
Stephen Covey believes in the abundance mentality – using the ‘pie’ example. He cited that if folks think of abundance then win-win situation will be created vs. a win-lose situation when one have a scarcity mentality. I totally agree in finding ways of getting the pie bigger vs fighting for a bigger share of a small pie cause it has the happier & positive outcome for all..
However – it is precise reason of ‘over’ abundance mentality that created the spending glut of Americans ridden with debt, the reason the 3 big automakers fail to improve themselves & ask for big handouts, the reason the so called ‘earth princes’ can’t keep up with the ‘immigrants’, the reason complacency exists & the reason behind the global warming.
Its when one think of scarcity that one becomes more attentive, seek efficiency & reduce wastes, find ways to reduce / reuse / recycle, innovate for development with less resources..
I for one, reduced my fuel usage by 50% due to the huge price hike 6 months ago, now – even with the reduction of fuel by 40%- I am still at the reduced usage level just because I have gotten use to the changed lifestyle (like car pooling or plan errands) to help reduce fuel spending. Maybe.. just maybe – the reduced petrol price / barrel today may be contributed by the fact that lots of people have changed their habits over the past months of crazy inflation.
Yet – I do believe in businesses or entrepreneurs, abundance mentality is important, after all it was because of new ‘pies’ created that makes the economy so much bigger than 30 years before.
So maybe.. we should use both scarcity & abundance in our daily life. Scarcity when we think of costs & wastes but abundance in opportunities. We can’t just go living life in either school of thoughts.
I guess the challenge for me would be how to think of abundance when scarcity events are all about me.
I find it incredulous when our government laments the need to increase the so called ‘earth-princes’ income & standard of living by the continuance ‘leaching’ of the supposed ‘immigrants’ to subsidised these supposed princes.
What’s the point of giving chances after chances to them when they do not want / appreciate it. In the short span of 9 months, I have only witness irresponsibility, laziness, cheats, liars & cowards among them.
These ‘princes’ love staying in their kampung. They are comfortable. They do not want responsibility. They do not want to work 10 hours a day. They do not want to gain more knowledge to improve themselves. They do not care about saving for ‘rainy’ days. They do not want to live within their means when they could live on ‘advance pay’ or better yet cheat some whenever possible.
Don’t you get it? They don’t want to work hard like the immigrants do. They do not keep to their commitment like the immigrants do. They can’t handle responsibility like the immigrants do. They can’t face problems head on like the immigrants do. They don’t practice what their religion preached like the immigrants do. They don’t want to continuously learn like the immigrants do.
So- as an immigrant – what shall i do?
OUTSOURCE. OUTWIT. OUTLAST. of course…
